About me
My name is Joel Vasquez. Some of my earliest experiences as a child were drawing cartoon characters for family members/ teachers. Along with a fascination of video games (saving up quarters every chance I got to sneak in a trip or two to my local arcade) I did not know that these characteristics would take me to where I am today.
As most of my peers I started off as a traditional artist (graphite/ paints/ etc.). I then made the transition from traditional to digital and found a whole new world of possibilities for my art. There are so many mediums that are available and I found that really anything can be possible if one has a vision. I learned a variety of different tools only to find that I liked to do them all. I consider myself an artist and as an artist I have an affinity to create something that will be creative. With that I like to do concept art/ model/ texture/ rig and animate/ and do effects. I couldn’t help myself, I find all of these things to be very interesting and wanted to be able to demonstrate all these things in my demo reel (I was not able to provide concept work, but thankfully I have a website for that). I find myself fortunate to be able to provide my employer with all these assets.
This is a very exciting point in my life, to finally be in a position to fulfill my childhood dream and start my career in something that I not only have a great passion for but have had a talent in since I could remember. I have had a full-time job since I was 17 years old and am currently employed in an industry leading company where I could easily start a career in and be quite successful. I have passed up leadership positions time and time again for one reason, and that was to focus on my education. I was previously an assistant manager for 2 companies in the beginning stages of my school; however, as the classes began to intensify I could not manage my team as well as I should have. Working part-time is not an option for me and that is when I made the transition of being an assistant manager to becoming a validation analyst. As an analyst, I have not had the pressures of a manager; however, I work with a team/ apply critical thinking and problem solving/ quick learning atmosphere/ meeting deadlines and communicate with different departments on a daily basis. Balancing my school with my job has been a great accomplishment for me as it has given me the tools necessary to start my career with all the confidence I will ever need. I truly believe that I am a valuable asset to my employer and the fact that I will now be able to focus solely on my career; I am very curious to see what my true potential can be.
